3 Books to Read if You Loved "Power Moves"
The April Karli Sherman Productions Book of the Month Power Moves by Lauren McGoodwin is an incredible resource for anyone who is looking to make a career shift, looking to level up their career path, and anyone who likes professional development book that doesn't include tons of fluffy stories, but can get to the point with the lessons and practical tips.
If you haven't picked up a copy of Power Moves, be sure to put it on your to-read list!!
If you did read Power Moves and you're like, "Okay, Karli. You were right. That was fantastic. Now what?"
First of all, check out this super cool discussion guide from the Career Contessa website that is a great resource to dig a little deeper into Power Moves. Honestly, while you're there, take advantage of ALL the cool stuff Lauren shares on this site!! Talk about some SERIOUS resources to help you level up in your career.
Next, be sure to check out these other professional development titles that I personally recommend to my Executive Coaching clients and are excellent professional resources!!
Dare to Lead by Brené Brown (Amazon)
"Brené Brown has taught us what it means to dare greatly, rise strong, and brave the wilderness. Now, based on new research conducted with leaders, change makers, and culture shifters, she’s showing us how to put those ideas into practice so we can step up and lead."
If you read and loved Daring Greatly, you've listened to Brené's podcast "Dare to Lead" or you just want to level up as a leader, I highly recommend this book! We are all called to be leaders, whether in our personal lives, our careers, our volunteer work, or any other room we walk into. You don't have to have a fancy title to take on the role of a leader.
But maybe in your career, you do want that promotion. You do want to manage people. You want to be the CEO and rock it. Level up your leadership skills, and you'll be one step close to achieving those goals, and making a positive impact once you get there!!
Badass Habits by Jen Sincero (Amazon)
"Badass Habits is a eureka-sparking, easy-to-digest look at how our habits make us who we are, from the measly moments that happen in private to the resolutions we loudly broadcast (and, erm, often don't keep) on social media. Habit busting and building goes way beyond becoming a dedicated flosser or never showing up late again--our habits reveal our unmet desires, the gaps in our boundaries, our level of self-awareness, and our unconscious beliefs and fears."
Yeah, yeah. "We are what we repeatedly do."
Karli, I've heard that a million times before.
Uh...because it's the truth.
You want to know what someone believes in? Look at their actions. Look at what they make a priority. If I value literacy & knowledge & reading...but literally never pick up a book, do I actually value those things? Or am I just saying I do? If you want to dig deeper into your values, you can do that here. But if you know what things you want to make a priority in your life and you want your habits to match, check our Badass Habits.
Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek (Amazon)
"Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work, feels trusted and valued during the day, then returns home feeling fulfilled. This is not a crazy, idealized notion. Today, in many successful organizations, great leaders create environments in which people naturally work together to do remarkable things."
Great leaders create great organizations.
It's all about people, y'all.
In Leaders Eat Last, Simon Sinek uses stories from organizations around the world to show us exactly what a good leader, and a successful organization, should really look like. I've recommended Leaders Eat Last before in this list, but I think it's 100% worth mentioning again. These lessons are SO timely. If you want to be a better leader and level up your team's experience, be sure to check this one out!!
I hope you enjoyed this month's Karli Sherman Productions Book of the Month pick! Stay tuned all year for some more fabulous reading recommendations, including a great fiction book next month!!
